The advantages of a hybrid vehicle

Equipped with a petrol engine combined with a self-charging electric motor, DS 3 and DS 4 HYBRID offers reduced CO2 emissions and improved fuel efficiency, with up to 15% less fuel consumed on average. (i) Fuel savings may vary according to battery state of charge, driving style and weather conditions.  


Both of these models benefit from :

  • a PureTech petrol engine,
  • an electric motor,
  • a 48V Li-Ion battery,
  • a timing belt starter and dual-clutch transmission.

The comfort of transparent technology

HYBRID combines two different energies for remarkable driving comfort and high efficiency: the first few metres are covered silently thanks to electric power alone, without CO2 emissions (i) Zero emission at tailpipe (in the use phase)  , then the petrol engine takes over when the going gets tough.


The ability to run on electric power alone means that the car runs very quietly, offering unrivalled comfort and an undeniably smooth ride. The silence of city driving is offset by a slight sound (AVAS) emitted when the car passes at speeds of up to 20 mph to warn pedestrians and other road users.


On the road, the combination of petrol and electric power provides efficiency and flexibility. The electric motor provides extra torque at low revs and, under hard acceleration, additional power for greater performance and lower fuel consumption. 


The HYBRID system is designed to be stress-free. The battery recharges automatically as you drive, thanks to the petrol engine, with no cables to plug in and no waiting time. As deceleration phases are automatically managed to recover energy, the use of the mechanical braking system is also greatly reduced, with a significant drop in fine-particle emissions.

Driver support to maximise driving efficiency

At the wheel, as the switch from one motor to the other is barely noticable, when driving on electric power alone the speed display is blue. On the digital instrument cluster, the energy flow can be displayed, as can the battery charge level and its operating status via a power meter. The percentage of distance covered on electric power alone is instantly displayed, and is also available at the end of the journey. 


To give drivers the best possible support in discovering this hybrid system, each customer will be guided through the DS 3 HYBRID and DS 4 HYBRID with training specifically linked to its use. The aim is to enable everyone to optimise driving comfort and efficiency.

Thanks to the Geofencing function (only on DS 4 E-TENSE 225), your Plug-in hybrid will be capable to automatically activate the eletric driving mode in low emission zones, making you free to drive in every part of the city in total peace of mind.


Our plug-in hybrids are efficient and versatile: zero emissions in 100% electric mode and low fuel consumption in the combined cycle. All without compromising driving enjoyment.


Driving modes

Our plug-in hybrid vehicle have four drive modes:


HYBRID mode, sometimes enables you to drive using electric power, other times with the internal combustion engine. As useful around town as on the motorway, it delivers optimal use of electrical energy. 


Zero emission mode (i) zero emission at tailpipe (in the use phase)  , selected by default, is perfect for urban journeys. You can cover more than 65km (EAER combined cylce WLTP, according to models) without consuming a single drop of petrol. Experience a new sensation: complete silence inside with remarkable responsiveness.


Activate SPORT mode to unleash the potential of your DS. The internal combustion engine will deliver all its power, assisted by the two electric motors. Accelerate and repeat: you’ll reach the peak of driver enjoyment. 


The 4x4 or 4WD mode (on the 4 wheels drive version) will improve drivability on the road or over difficult terrain. The power of the motors is evenly distributed across all four wheels, greatly improving grip whether the road you’re on is winding, damp, muddy or snowy.

Regenerative breaking

Thanks to our participation in Formula E and to our double title in Formula E, regenerative braking transforms the kinetic energy when you decelerate into electricity, thereby extending the range of your batteries. A simple push on the gear lever activates this function which lets you increase the car's range by up to 20%.


This function can be engaged with a simple push on the gear lever.

Remote pre-warming

The E-SAVE function saves electrical energy in the batteries for future use. This mode is especially useful when you’re expecting a restricted traffic zone, reserved solely for "clean" vehicles. 


The map that’s available through the touchscreen shows you in real time the limit of where you can drive in electric mode as well as charging points.

It's always the right time for charging

There are different ways to charge your electric car’s battery. Depending on the means of charging you choose, charging time can be increased or decreased.


You can decide to charge in your usual parking places: overnight at home or during the day at work for example. On longer trips, stop for a short break at a rapid charging point. You’ll recover 80% of your range in 30 minutes.

MYDS Application

Autonomy information

With the MyDS smartphone application, discover in real time the state of the charge or the estimated remaining autonomy. When your vehicle is plugged in, the speed and expected charging time are also mentioned.

Remote charge

With remote charge control, use the MyDS app to initiate a charge or switch to scheduled charge. This function allows you to recharge during more advantageous time slots.

Remote heating and air conditioning

The configuration of the thermal preconditioning of the passenger compartment allows you to program the heating or air conditioning of your car. Designed for your convenience, this feature also helps preserve your battery life if the vehicle is charging.


Incentives for plug-in driving

Road tax costs (Vehicle Excise Duty) are £0 and there are substantial tax incentives for business car drivers and businesses to make the switch to 100% electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Range & charging

Charging is essential to take full advantage of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Fully charged, our E-TENSE hybrid models have a 100% electric range of up to 36 miles (WLTP cycle¹). We recommend that you charge your plug-in hybrid vehicle every day in order to enjoy sufficient electric range to complete the majority of your daily trips using only electricity.
