DS 7 CROSSBACK Won the Grand Prix for the Most Beautiful Interior

During this evening’s opening ceremony for the 33rd Festival Automobile International, Thierry Métroz, DS style director, received the ‘Award for Best Interior’ for DS 7 CROSSBACK, presented by Etienne Gernelle, president and CEO of Le Point magazine.

“To receive an award from an exceptionally talented judging panel, design experts in worlds often far removed from the automotive industry, is particularly moving. It commends the high standards required from DS stylists, designers, engineers and craftspeople in order to create DS 7 CROSSBACK. A model that fully echoes the ambition of DS: to embody French innovation and luxury savoir-faire in every car we make,” explained Thierry Metroz.

“Award for Best Interior”, Hôtel des Invalides is an exceptional setting in which to present Presidential DS 7 CROSSBACK and test drive DS 7 CROSSBACK pre-release; the latest edition of the Festival Automobile International showcases the first model in the DS second-generation range, alongside the boldness, excellence and avant-garde spirit that has been driving DS Automobiles for almost four years.

The opening night of the 33rd edition of the Festival Automobile International, which took place at the prestigious Hôtel des Invalides in Paris, saw Thierry Métroz, DS style director, receive the ‘Award for Best Interior’ for his latest creation: DS 7 CROSSBACK.
DS 7 CROSSBACK's refinement, elegance, attention to detail, fine materials and high-tech equipment seduced the judging panel and design experts, some of whom originate from worlds somewhat distanced from the automotive sector: fashion, architecture, historical heritage and the press.

Unveiled to the world at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, DS 7 CROSSBACK carries all the hallmarks of style and credentials crafted by DS designers over several years. The style team has invested all its savoir-faire into the new-generation model, which is also the standard-bearer of stylistic codes for future DS models. Directly inspired by DS Divine and DS E TENSE concept-cars, DS 7 CROSSBACK affirms the identity of the DS brand; its status, its refinement and its technology.

Contemporary, thanks to two 12-inch screens. The interior also includes several exclusive features such as ‘pearl stitching’, a decorative topstitch that creates small pearl-effect stitches on the dashboard and door panels. Technical validation (impact and abrasion testing) took more than four years of work for the DS team and equipment manufacturers. Such a process is unique within today’s automotive industry.

Leather and guilloché work are also hallmarks of DS savoir-faire.
The DS brand uses two types of leather—grained leather and Nappa leather with a softer feel—but also an ‘Art Leather’, which is patent Nappa. Sourced in large quantities with the assistance of suppliers, these exclusive materials are reserved for the most refined cabins, such as that of DS 7 CROSSBACK. Occasionally, it is the brand’s design teams who offer new materials and methods to suppliers, such as the hide used to create seats featuring a watch-strap pattern, a design exclusive to DS models created by the brand’s leather-workers.

Savoir-faire in the form of guilloché-work. This process from the 16th century consists of embellishing the surface of the material by creating interlinking lines. This type of detailing, usually reserved for luxury watches due to their complex nature, is now used in the automotive sector thanks to the DS brand. For example, DS 7 CROSSBACK features ‘Clous de Paris’ guilloché-work in aluminium, a decorative feature that consists of reproducing tiny pyramidal shapes intersected by hollowed lines. ‘Clous de Paris’ detailing is also featured in various other parts of the cabin, creating unified style and refinement.

Thanks to this savoir-faire and loyalty to DS's philosophy of personalisation, DS 7 CROSSBACK offers a choice of five universes. Five Inspirations that respond to the tastes and desires of each and every customer, reflecting individual personalities. In homage to Paris, birthplace of the brand, DS's Inspirations are DS Bastille, DS Rivole, DS Faubourg, DS Opéra and the sporty Inspiration DS PERFORMANCE Line.

Respecting craft tradition, every detail, every material (Alcantara®, grained leather, Nappa leather) in Inspirations has been rigorously selected, formed and positioned in the car to create a unique atmosphere. These materials are showcased over large welcoming and enveloping spaces: from the dashboard and door panels, to the consoles and seats, nestling the driver and passengers into an exhilarating atmosphere. As is the case for all DS models, the steering wheel features leather trim. A testament to the level of attention to detail, grab-handles and the central area of the steering wheel (airbag cover) can also be covered in leather: a rare finish.

Depending on the Inspiration you opt for, the selection knob on the central screen can also be set with crystal, or you can bring time to life with the B.R.M R180 clock, created exclusively for DS 7 CROSSBACK by French watchmaker B.R.M Chronographes. Majestically placed on the dashboard, it rises from its holder by pivoting on itself whenever DS 7 CROSSBACK is started.

From 31 January to 4 February 2018, fans of beautiful cars, amateurs and aesthetes, young and old have the opportunity to discover DS 7 CROSSBACK against the prestigious backdrop of Hôtel des Invalides.
